This October half-term, I decided to visit Hat Gardens in Luton, where they had a free pumpkin patch set up for families. I had heard it was a kid-friendly setup with mini wheelbarrows, activities and plenty of photo opportunities; it sounded like the perfect autumn outing.
As soon as I arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. Families and children alike were scattered around, busying themselves with mini wheelbarrows, seeking the perfect prime plump pumpkin. Watching the kids scurry around, carefully selecting their own pumpkins brought out that nostalgic, festive feeling I always love around this time of year.
The staff had also set up a few tables with colouring activities, and children sat happily painting pumpkins, ghosts and other Halloween characters. I couldn’t resist joining in for a bit – sometimes, it’s just a joy to take a seat and lose yourself in a little creative activity, surrounded by the joyful energy of everyone around and a little sojourn to days gone by.
After picking out my own pumpkin, I stopped by a few of the photo spots set up around the patch. They had hay bales, scarecrows, and even a cute little bench decorated with autumnal leaves. I took some photos to remember the day and capture that autumnal vibe that only seems to last a fleeting moment each year.
Leaving with pumpkin in hand, I felt so happy I had stopped by. There’s something truly special about autumn, and events like this remind me why it’s easily my favourite season.
