BEDFORD KITE AND MOTORING FESTIVAL

“Let's go fly a kite.

Up to the highest height

Let's go fly a kite.

And send it soaring.

Up through the atmosphere

Up where the air is clear.

Oh, let's go fly a kite.”

In addition to its close relations, cultural beliefs, and geographical boundaries, one of the extraordinary community events that separate Bedford from other hails is its colourful festival. Of course, like every fun-loving community, Bedford enjoys festivities, which are held in the middle of our annual calendar. To this end, the Bedford Kite and Motoring Festival has recently been the talk of the town. Don’t just take my word for it. Here are some highlights from the festival.

Although it only started in 2019, the family-focused festival has become a noteworthy event throughout the nation. Bedfordshire really has a flair for ceremonies and tourism, so the location of this festival is a perfect spot. The festive delights offer so much for residents and visitors alike. In addition to admiring, striking kites soaring in the breeze and exotic motor vehicles purring in the driveways, there is music, food, drink, vegan fare and many other fun activities for kids and adults… take away the years and jaunt on the bouncy castle!

This year’s event took place on the 24th and 25th of June (10 am to 4 pm). Without buying tickets, participants could register as exhibitors. Those owning collectable and classic cars showed off their motor collections with pride. Since there was no parking on the festival site itself, only those registered were able to park close by and display their treasures. However, you can easily park at the two town centre car parks which are a mere stone-throws distance from the festival location.

Participants also needed to register before they could fly their kites in the flying arena. And if the festival attendees intended to trade, they could register to book a charity spot. Overall, enough provision was made for the refreshment of attendees. Participants brought their own refreshments or relished the abundance of bars and canteens on the festival site. Likewise, you could refill reusable water bottles during your visit. Hence, this free family festival had something for everyone.

Even dog owners could bring their pets along. However, they must be responsible for their wellbeing, especially because of the heat of the day. The borough’s council even provided recyclable and general-purpose bins for citizens and visitors at the festival. These bins could be used to dispose of recyclable and general waste. Please use them! Participants were also advised not to bring glass packages or bottles to the festival.

The festival’s objective in considering the safety of participants was certainly appreciated by all. Event staff are continually on standby to help children and vulnerable adults, especially if they are lost. They could easily be reported to the Lost Children's Point, and they would be reconnected to their parent or caregiver.

With over 250 classic cars and the flock of careering kites viewed at the end of the day, it was indeed a glamorous festival to behold.
