HATFIELD ROTARY CLUB’S SANTA FUN RUN: A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE!

Like the circus clowns, our beloved bright-red jolly Santa will always serve as a joy-inspiring, fun-raising image in our society, especially during the Christmas period. After all, as Bill Keane observed, God placed Santa Claus on earth to remind us that Christmas is supposed to be a happy time.

Now, to maximize the festive experience, many innovative minds keep coming up with novel concepts to enjoy themselves to the full during this joyous season. And one of the new trends gaining increasing popularity is the Santa Fun Run, a straightforward fun race where every participant or runner gets to dress up as Santa. The aim is to bring everyone together to participate in a hectic running challenge in the spirit of Christmas. This is precisely what Hatfield Rotary Club held recently in Welwyn Garden City.

Hatfield Rotary Club’s Santa Run took place on the 12th December 2021 at the lakesides of Stanborough Park, Welwyn. More than 60 people from different families, clad in the famous bright-red outfits, participated in the run, the oldest Santa being 93-year-old Judith Gill. The scheduled course was 2 km around the South Lake. However, entrants were allowed to run fewer or more circuits as desired. You could run, jog, walk, walk your dog, or push a pram – whatever worked for you. That way, the people who were athletically challenged could participate.

A beautiful highlight to note is that while the entrants indeed had a fun-filled time, the Club was also able to raise £1,000 for local and rotary charities. Hatfield Rotary Club, formed in 1946, is renowned for its fundraising acts for charities over the years, with an average of £20,000 raised annually.

Hatfield Rotary Club’s Santa Run this year indeed lit up the whole garden city and brought immense joy to everyone present. There are many other exciting events that have been lined up for this festive season, and next year, which are super amazing for you and your kids. Examples include Baby Rhyme Time at Hatfield Library and Christingle Service in Aid of the Children's Society, both coming up on 24th December.

Clearly, no one has a reason not to treat their families and friends to the best of fun times during this Christmas holiday. Enjoy!
