SHUTTLEWORTH SWISS GARDEN

When our present world in which we wander wearies the soul and society continuously fails to satisfy both body and mind, as Aumonier observed, there is always the garden! Do you really need to ask why? Gardens are therapeutic, gardens refresh a dying soul, gardens are nature, in all its glory, personified.

Now that you are fully aware of the potential restorative powers of a garden, one prime spot you may consider visiting is Shuttleworth Swiss Garden. Let the excited mind pique interest and be on the lookout. You cannot discover a place more relaxing and joyful. This garden gives your soul a quantum leap to memories not long past, but seemingly forgotten and dare to say, unlikely to return. Until now.

Let’s explore what the Swiss Garden has to offer and refresh your memory of nature and the glories it has to offer.

The Swiss Garden is set on a 50-acre expanse of land, adjacent to the Shuttleworth Collection. It is one of the UK's most celebrated Regency Gardens, built in the 1820s and reopened to the public in 2014. Of course, the views are as mouth-watering as you can expect and beautiful to behold. Interested in horticulture? The plants are well-manicured and create a breathtaking landscape with their delightful, seasoned, vibrant colors. If you’re interested in artifacts and history, the Swiss Garden boasts thirteen archaic buildings (six of which are Grade II listed) carefully preserved with antique stone. The Swiss Cottage is the heart of the garden, alongside Grotto and Fernery, where regular celebrationary weddings are held to a stunning backdrop. The Swiss Garden was expertly designed to guide visitors to viewpoints such as lakes, bridges, follies and sculptures; easily accessible with no stress nor hurry. Moreover, the Garden welcomes you with staff and facilities offering a charming reception that is out of this world.

The grade II listed North Park is now available to view and is dog friendly, but only on leads. Dogs are not allowed inside the Swiss Garden. Bring along your pooper scooper, bag and preserve the lawns, flora and fauna for others to enjoy. Respect nature, respect others. On the subject of animals, there are three delightful peacocks in the garden, flourishing their exotic tails and echoing the hypnotic sounds of their calls. Also, the lakes are home to nesting swans and a host of other wildlife that will certainly captivate the mind and free the soul.

All delights are accessible for a token £10.00 for adults. Children under 16 have free access alongside RHS and Friends of Swiss Garden/SVAS.
