As you may be aware, opportunities to pick vegetables and fruits, especially strawberries, directly from a field or garden are always fun and treasurable moments. Truth be told, who doesn’t love picking yummy, healthy and exquisite berries when the time is ripe? The inspiring feeling of nature and its soothing sounds; the ambiance created while bonding with your children in that enchanting environment; the joy or excitement on their faces often produce a lasting impression in most parents' memories.
So, it’s exciting that the Secret Farm, Bedfordshire, seasonally hosting their unique “pick-your-own” events, just hosted its first open-weekend Secret Strawberries 2023. In fact, with a mere £3.00, participants over three years of age enjoyed all the goodies that came with the one-fun-day-out experience. And guess what? Play time lasted till the 17:00, the closing hour.
The Secret Farm's PYO strawberry patch remains a full-on family experience. It’s the event that you want to take full advantage of with your spouse and children. You could even bring friends or relatives along! With your beloved, you get to pick fresh and juicy strawberries straight from the stalk. But hey, wait a minute, there is more to these Secret Farm events than simply picking this delicious nectar.
With your Secret Strawberries ticket, one of the things you have access to is the small play tractors for your kids. Of course, picking strawberries is already treat enough. But then, playing with these small tractors, their size and realism, helps children have a more immersive and educative experience at the PYO patch.
In addition to the tractors, the secret beach experience (i.e., playing with sand) and Space Hoppers also grabs your children's attention, even the 3-year-olds and younger. Cool stuff, right? For others, including the grown-ups, many wrap up the event with the planting experience called "Watch it Grow." There, you get to grow your free ingredients and have access to the potting area.
All these, and many more events, were the fascinating experiences that made the Secret Farm’s first open weekend, Secret Strawberries 2023, such great fun. But a laudable inclusion thrown into the mix by the organizers was the photo session. You get to take pictures with your loved ones to preserve your day to memory. Needless to say, it’s a gesture well appreciated.
“Goethe once humorously said, one must ask children and birds how cherries and strawberries taste.” This implies how important these character-building events are to your children in taking them there. For me, it sure was a wonderful experience. You should try it soon too! Never, ever too old!
