WHY THE FOREST OF MARSTON VALE IS THE IDEAL GIFT TO YOURSELF

Although there may be no Wi-Fi access in a deep hallowed forest, who needs the virtual when you are surrounded by the real? Worry not techies, you will still get an excellent phone connection! This is because, in every walk hand in hand with nature, you tend to receive and cherish far more than you seek. Curiosity and discovery invigorate the mind, nature is blessed with simplicity, its wonders cannot be encompassed. Now, when it comes to the beauty, ecstasy and sheer joy of nature, a treat such as the Forest of Marston Vale ranks highly in satisfying your desire.

This evolving community forest of 15,799 acres is located in the depths of Bedford MK43 0PR, United Kingdom. The Forest of Marston Vale is one of the 12 community forests in England, easily accessible to more than 50% of the country’s population. Now this, of course, is not its only national or international golden ticket. The Forest of Marston Vale is also one of the four selected woodlands representing the UK in the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy (QCC). This is a network of forest conservation programs involving all 53 Commonwealth countries.

During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, global carbon emissions fell by 6-8%. While this is good news, it is not nearly sufficient to ward off the growing climate crisis. Therefore, in its aim to make a clear statement and declare its intent, the Forest of Marston Vale has established 12 woodland sites and planted over 2 million trees. Thus, its aim of sustaining human and animal lives, in a healthier environment, is well on its way with 4,917 tons of carbon being removed from the atmosphere on an annual basis. A heroic act indeed! Others take heed.

As you dwell on this positive impact, the Forest of Marston Vale also has recreational offerings other than health and climate support. You can book the Forest Centre for future “Welcome Back to Normalcy” parties, weddings (with plenty of guests) or other special occasion, even children's parties, where we can all celebrate the coming end of lockdown (fingers crossed). The Bike Hire and Gift shops are also open, offering a variety of gifts, toys and books. You can also nourish yourself at the celebrated lakeside café. There is a huge variety of hot food, children's meals, desserts, and beverages to feast on all year long. For ice cream lovers like myself, and the variety of flavours are truly scrumptious, the reception area is where you will get your fix (only cards and contactless payments are available so bring your plastic).

Walkers, horse riders and cyclists can make use of the expansive forest tracks. The views are truly stunning, and it is a uniquely special moment to be surrounded by trees, plants, shrubs and wildlife, feeling a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives.

The car park shuts at 8 pm during the summer, and for the remainder of the year, 5 pm, unless there is a frivolous evening function in full swing. Marston Vale Forest is open to the general public of all ages and offers you more than you can ever ask for…so don’t ask, witness the glories for yourself!
