WINTER LIGHTS AT CANARY WHARF

Festivals are joyful, colorful and exciting celebrations that leave ever-lasting memories. In addition to these grand emotions at festivals, an explosive carnival would be a light art showcase. Hence, the award-winning Winter Lights came back for its seventh annual edition. Winter Lights at Canary Wharf is the largest light art festival in London. The seventh instalment took place after a two year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This first appearance in three years included several fun features as we shall now discover.

The event started on Wednesday, January 18, and ended on Saturday, January 28. It was undoubtedly an eventful and engaging celebration of craft and creativity. The 10-days festival had numerous daily treats lasting 5 hours, 5 pm - 10 pm daily. In that period, a horde of luminous spectacles eclipsed Canary Wharf. No better host exists than E14 for this magnificent experience. One of London's major commercial centres is a perfect fit for showcasing the ingenuity of British creativity and imagination.

With over 20 major artworks offering several messages for sightseers from all over the country, these luminous representations showcase the modern world, climate change and the need for unity. The audience got the opportunity to witness some mind-blowing spectacles, such as three giant riverside mammoths, glowing trees, a 10-meter-wide floating globe, a wood wharf fibre-optic tunnel and many other permanent public art collections at the estate. The celebration debuted nine newly commissioned pieces.

Another spectacular feature keeping the dark winter evenings in London aglow during this period was, you guessed, the food! The last week of January at Canary Wharf offered lights along with plenty of delicious delicacies. Hence, spectators could easily keep up a spirited five-hour stint of art admiration. There were different options at the festival to suit all taste buds. Sightseers can grab quick nibbles since there were street food markets. Also, the audience could order cocktails and dinner from nearby bars and restaurants.

Winter Lights has brought the world’s most innovative light artists together for the carnival. In addition, it has brought together some top names in the music industry. Some of these artists are Julius Popp, Ottotto, Calidos, and Camille Walala among others. Winter Lights at Canary Wharf is more dignified because audience attendance is free. This unticketed gesture makes the light art festival unique in the celebratory art world.

The annual festival is a fantastic experience for both children and adults. The staff even provided the audience with maps to guide them through the Winter Lights trail and access to food and drinks. Even after the event, passersby do not have to worry about having a dull expanse of land after Christmas. Since the trees are permanent, they have left the Christmas lights on them till now. Christmas is forever,. The carnival promises to return, and you must certainly experience the illumination of life.
